Jeff Harder is the Queen's Park bureau chief for the Toronto Sun. After 10 years of service, he is taking advantage of the corporation's eight-week sabbatical, most of which is being spent on the road in a 14,000-pound, 300-horsepower, 28-foot motorhome.
Since Harder dislikes the tyranny of overcrowded tourist attractions, he is taking a road less traveled, from the urban sprawl and political correctness of downtown Toronto to the hooting and hollering of an old-time rodeo in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta.
It's a long way at more than 3,500 kilometres. We will feature his weekly dispatches and photographs in a special CANOE section called Harder's Highways - as long as he doesn't hit the ditch.
