Two-women: Christine Smith and Paula McKenzie, both Calgary, were ninth in a final field of 15.
Cross-Country Skiing
Men's sprint: Donald Farley, Lorraine, was 45th in qualifying in a field of 72, eliminated.
Women's sprint: Beckie Scott, Vermilion, won consolation final, finished fourth overall; Sara Renner, Golden, placed fifth in semifinal heat, eliminated; after advancing from quarter-finals and finishing 14th in qualifying; Jaime Fortier, Canmore, was 30th in qualifying in a field of 58, eliminated; Milaine Theriault, Canmore, was 31st in qualifying, eliminated.
Figure Skating
Women's singles: Jennifer Robinson, Windsor, Ont., was eighth after short program in a field of 27.
Freestyle Skiing
Men's aerials: Jeff Bean, Ottawa, finished fourth in a field of 12 finalists; Andrew Capicik, Vancouver, placed eighth; Steve Omischi, North Bay, was 11th.
Hockey
Women: Canada def. Finland 7-3 in semifinal play, advancing to gold-medal final against the U.S.
