Third Don Walchuk was the big star for Kevin Martin's rink in the Olympic trial final this past December in Regina against Kerry Burtnyk. Walchuk made several double take-outs to take the pressure off Martin who executed the final shots in each end.

Walchuk, known for chewing a toothpick or straw while he plays, is determined put his skip in the winner's circle at a major international event. Walchuk won two Canadian titles and a world crown in 1989 with Pat Ryan.

"It would be nice to get the monkey off our back," said Walchuk, an investment advisor. "I've won a worlds but I would like the other guys to win one. (The Olympics) are bigger than a worlds."
