Vicky Sunohara played at the first ever world championships in 1990. However she missed the following two worlds when she quit the sport for a couple of years. But she's been a key veteran on the squad ever since helping Canada to four more world titles and an Olympic silver medal.

This past September, Sunohara helped donate 100 pairs of skates to a youth help group in Toronto then provided some lessons to the youngsters. "Sport has always been a large part of my life," said Sunohara, a spokesperson for the Youth Assisting Youth program. "I don't know what type of person I would have become if I didn't have hockey to push me toward excellence. I truly believe that all children regardless of their situations should be involved in sport. I want these kids to have the same opportunities I had."

Sunohara also puts on a summer hockey camp and has an award in her name with the Whitby Girls Hockey Association.
