  Cherie Piper was a late addition to the Canadian women's Olympic hockey team. She replaced veteran Nancy Drolet, cut from the squad in a very controversial made after the team was officially announced. Drolet unsuccessfully appealed the decision.

  As a member of the Ontario provincial team Piper won gold at the 1999 Canada Games and 2000 national championships.

Feb. 19: Canada def. Finland 7-3 in semifinal play, advancing to Thursday's final against the U.S.
