Mark Fawcett is the veteran on the Canadian snowboard team and is headed to his second Games in Salt Lake City. He started snowboarding in 1984 and by 1991 he was near the top of the world in the sport.

Fawcett was one of Canada's top medal hopes in 1998 but saw his teammate Ross Rebagliati win the gold medal. The lure of an Olympic triumph is what keeps him on the hills.

"If I had won the Olympics in 1998, I think there is a chance I would have stopped," said Fawcett, who has struggled this season in World Cup competition. "But I didn't even get to finish my run in Nagano and that was disappointing. I'm happy I stuck it out for this one."

In 1995, Fawcett was the International Snowboard Federation's athlete of the year.
