Emily Brydon, one of Canada's brightest young stars in alpine skiing, suffered the first major injury of her career last February at the world championships at St. Anton, Austria. She crashed in the women's downhill and ripped her knee in four different areas. She underwent major reconstructive surgery.

Her long-time coach Jim Pollock says Brydon's recovery is unbelievable.

"The recovery and rehabilitation has gone extremely well," said Brydon. "Believe it or not this injury has been an important experience for me. I was able to focus on something else and set new goals. It wasn't a negative thing at all. I'll be a stronger person for it. I had never been seriously injured before so I was pushing my luck."

Prior to the accident, Brydon was enjoying a remarkable campaign. She posted four top-10 results on the World Cup circuit including a bronze at the St. Moritz, Switzerland stop.

"I couldn't have asked for much more," she said. "I was ready to do well at that level. The year before I was just learning. I felt confident that I could beat my opponents and also felt confident with my skiing. It was fun."

"I feel I can comeback 100 per cent. Nothing is holding me back."

Brydon started skiing at two in Fernie, B.C., where she grew up. She was named Canada's junior female athlete of the year in 2000 for her gold medal performance in the combined event at the world junior championships.
