Sledgers set for Paralympics
By GORDIE NICHOLSON -- Special to the Ottawa Sun
Fifteen of Canada's top sledge hockey players survived a recent
training camp in Ottawa.
And they'vre already got their sights set on next year's Paralympic Games
in Salt Lake City.
"For us, it's something that only a few people in the world get an
opportunity to do and that is represent your country at a level of competition
such as this," said Todd Nicholson, captain of Canada's team for the past two
Olympic Games.
DREAMS COME TRUE
"To be able to see your dreams come true and be able to put on the red and
white jersey with the Canadian emblem on the front -- you wouldn't believe the
feeling."
Other local players named to the national team were Jean Labonte, Lou
Mulvihill, Herve Lord and Shawn Matheson.
"This team has all the talent in the world to win gold in 2002," said Lord.
