Benched Lindros would rather sit than split
By BRUCE GARRIOCH -- Ottawa Sun
SALT LAKE CITY -- It wasn't a concussion that has sidelined Eric Lindros and it may not have been his sore shoulder.
Noticeable by his absence in the third period of Team Canada's 2-1 win over Finland Wednesday was Lindros. Coach Pat Quinn benched Lindros because Mike Peca was shadowing Teemu Selanne so well, and there was an extra forward.
Lindros said he felt fine and the reason he didn't play had nothing to do with the fact that his shoulder is sore.
"No, (he wasn't injured). I feel really good," said Lindros. "There were some changes with the lines.
"You do whatever is best for the team. It's a short tournament and you go out and do what you can in a short period of time."
Team Canada GM Wayne Gretzky defended Lindros.
"Eric is going to be a big part of our team here," said Gretzky. "We need him playing at the top of his game."
