General Motors Thomas J. Gadawski, right, senior project engineer, does some final testing in lighting the caldron that will be used to carry the Olympic flame Monday, Dec. 3, 2001 in Atlanta. As the Olympic torch travels between cities without a torchbearer, Chevrolet created the vehicle with a built-in caldron to keep the flame from going out, even at speeds of 70 mph. The torch telay will travel more than 13,500 miles across the United States in 65 days carried by about 11,500 torchbearers.
