Thanassis Tsailas, a 17-year-old skier whose father was a torchbearer for the Grenoble Games in 1968, lights the Olympic torch from a cauldron at the Panathenian stadium in Athens on Monday Dec. 3, 2001. The flame that will burn at the Salt Lake City Winter Games began its journey to the United States after a handing over ceremony at the stadium that hosted the first modern Olympics.
