SYDNEY, Australia (AP) -- A new system in which Olympic tickets are delivered to buyers at home has begun in what organizers said was a "terrific start."

 About 117,000 of the scheduled 144,000 deliveries were made Sunday, the first of five delivery days. Some 20,000 red cards were delivered to ticket buyers who were not home.

 The red cards explain where and how the tickets for the Sept. 15-Oct. 1 Olympics can be collected.

 About 2,500 deliveries were not completed because details on order forms were inaccurate

 Ticketing communications manager John O'Neill said 2,000 staff were involved in loading, sorting and delivering tickets using 200 trucks and vans and more than 100 warehouses around the country.

 Organizers were slightly embarrassed when families in Brisbane and Adelaide, promoted as being the first ticket recipients in Queensland and South Australia states, were given the wrong tickets as photographers and TV cameramen observed.

 Both families received their proper tickets later Sunday.

 More than 2 million tickets remain on sale via ticket offices, a telephone call center and over the internet.

 Weekend reports said the latest inventory had shown tickets were still available for more than 100 of the 142 gold medal sessions.
