Troy Amos Ross had many offers to turn professional after reaching the quarter finals at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. However one of his dreams is to win an Olympic gold medal and many experts feel he just may have a chance in Sydney. The Olympic bug is deeply rooted in the Ross family. His father competed for Guyana at the 1968 Games and his cousin Edgerton Marcus won a silver medal for Canada at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.

  Ross qualified for the Games at a continental qualifier in April and included a victory over current world champion Michael Simms of the U.S. "Beating Simms was an opportunity to prove myself in a tournament," said Ross who moved to Canada with his family in 1982. "I wanted to go in there to show what I got."

  "I consider myself a boxer-puncher. I can throw the heavy hand to make it a short fight. In my category guys come out with power and speed. It's a light heavyweight category but the fighters have a heavyweight attitude. "
