Milaine Cloutier feels the success of her partnership with Robbyn Hermitage is that they are such different types of players. The women's doubles combination first played together in 1991 and have steadily progressed ever since. It culminated with a #21 world ranking on May 1 which qualified them for the Olympic Games, a first career berth for both players.

  "Robbyn is a tall player who can dominate the net," said Cloutier. "I'm more of a power player and tend to a lot of the retrieving. Our different styles make us a tough opponent."

  Cloutier was born and raised in Granby, Que., but made a big decision to move to Calgary in 1990. She did not know one single word of English. At the time she was to reside in Alberta for only nine months then return home. However she quickly realized that Calgary's national training centre was an ideal to location to improve her badminton in addition to becoming bilingual.

  She is currently pursuing her Certified Financial Planning diploma at Mount Royal College in Calgary, and plans to finish in 2001.
