Jonathan Beare is a member of the lightweight fours crew. Beare has competed at the last five world championships highlighted by a bronze medal in men's eights at the 1996 worlds. He started rowing in 1988 while in high school but initially quit. However he was convinced to return and now he's going to the Olympic Games. He is also a rowing coach at the University of Western Ontario in London.

Sept. 18: Men's lightweight four: Chris Davidson, Oakville, Ont.; Jon Beare, Toronto; Iain Brambell, Brentwood Bay, B.C.; Gavin Hassett, Victoria, finished second to France in heat, advanced to semifinals.
